GUWAHATI: All is not well with the online admission in HS (Higher Secondary) first year and four-year degree or UG courses under NEP-2020. In high secondary school's first year, as many as 56,078 students have not been admitted yet. And in UG courses, as many as 63,447 students have not applied for admission.

According to official sources, a total of 2,45,802 students took admission into HS first-year classes through the portal Darpan. Since as many as 3,01,880 students came out successful in the HSLC examination in 2023, tentatively 56,078 students are yet to take admission into HS first year in the state. This situation has led the AHSEC to extend the date of application for admission through the portal till July 4 and the admission deadline till July 8.

In the case of UG admissions going on through the portal Samarth, 1,76,984 students have applied so far. According to official sources, since 2,40,431 students came out successful in the HS final examination conducted by the AHSEC, around 63,447 students have not yet applied for admission through the portal. This has led the Directorate of Higher Education to extend the closing date for applications through the portal to July 3.

It seems that the level of awareness among the students and their guardians about admission through portals is low.
