Amphan: Major rivers in spate across Assam, Jia Bharali flowing above danger level

GUWAHATI: Following incessant rains in the Northeast for the last couple of days primarily owing to the 'Amphan' cyclone, major rivers are in spate across Assam with the Jia Bharali already flowing above the danger level.
According to the flood bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the first spate of flood has affected 10,801 people in 46 villages across seven Revenue Circles in the four districts of Darrang, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, and Sonitpur.
Altogether 26 villages have been affected in Goalpara followed by 13 in Darrang, six in Lakhimpur, and one in Sonitpur district. While four boats have been deployed by the NDRF and SDRF for rescue operations in Goalpara district, a relief distribution centre has been set up in Lakhimpur district.
The total crop area affected is 501.52 hectare. On the other hand, 13,448 big animals, 4,137 small animals, and 6,200 poultry have been affected. Erosion and infrastructure damage have been reported from various places.
