GUWAHATI: The ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) is developing a mobile app to enable people residing in disaster-prone areas in the State to send information, videos and pictures to it seeking help.

The ASDMA is to forward all such information to the departments concerned for necessary action at the earliest possible.

Assam is prone to floods and erosion. Sometimes, it takes time for the government to get information regarding people in distress when there are calamities like floods. Sometimes, such information doesn't reach the State government at all, and that makes the residents of disaster-prone areas bear the brunt.

To put an end to such a communication gap between the public and the government, the ASDMA is developing this citizen-centric App.

If the App becomes a reality, any citizen can send videos, pictures and information relating to disaster-prone hamlets or infrastructures like embankments, dykes, roads etc to this App. The information to be sent will get reflected in the App of the ASDMA.

On its part, the ASDMA is to send the information received to the departments concerned to act immediately to ascertain the veracity of the information, and act instantly, if found genuine.

The ASDMA will also stick to the action taken report in the event of any such information received through the App coming out to be true.

The process for the App had to be put on hold because of the model code of conduct for the State Assembly election. After the declaration of the results of the Assembly election on May 2, 2021, the process for the App will resume.
