GUWAHATI: The Assam Pharmacy Council (APC) has issued a notification in the form of an advertisement to 64 pharmacists, asking them to appear in person along with relevant documents in connection with proceeding for cancellation/deletion/removal of their names from the APC's register.
The notification has been issued because individual show-cause notices issued earlier to these 64 pharmacists returned undelivered due to faulty addresses.
Earlier, the Governor of Assam had issued two separate Gazette Notifications in February, 2020 and May, 2020 whereby the registration of a total of 1,810 pharmacists were permanently cancelled on the ground of fake qualifications in pursuance of a directive of the Gauhati High Court.
Following this, the APC had prepared a list of another 1,000 pharmacists whose qualifications were dubious. The 64 pharmacists who have been summoned now by the APC are part of the latter group.
Officials of the APC said that the qualifications of all 1,000 pharmacists concerned are being scrutinized and if the 64 pharmacists fail to appear before the council, then their registration will be permanently cancelled under provisions of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
