GUWAHATI: Keeping in view its target of collecting over Rs 500 crore in revenue during the ongoing month, the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) is continuing its anti-power-theft and disconnection/reconnection drive in full swing.
An official of the APDCL informed The Sentinel that 150 cases of power theft were detected last week and FIRs were lodged against eight offenders. The amount of money involved in these power-theft cases is Rs 17,48,063. Of this amount, the company has been able to recover Rs 11,83,120, the official said.
The official further informed that 18,655 electricity connections were disconnected last week due to non-payment of bills. The amount involved was Rs 15,49,24,886. Of this amount, Rs 4,59,56,801 has been recovered from the defaulters. During this period, 7,811 re-connections were also carried out.
The APDCL has collected revenue of Rs 439.77 crore in January and Rs 462.47 crore in February this year. The APDCL expects to collect revenue of over Rs 500 crore by March 31, the official said.
