GUWAHATI: The mega appointment letter distribution programme will be held on May 25 in the presence of Union Minister Amit Shah. Earlier, the programme was scheduled for May 26. The government will distribute over 45,000 appointment letters in various departments on that day as part of the BJP’s pre-poll commitment to provide government jobs to one lakh youths.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the forthcoming visit of the Union Home Minister with a few of his Cabinet colleagues and senior bureaucrats. As per the schedule, Shah will arrive in Guwahati on May 24. He will attend the appointment letter distribution programmes, besides laying the foundation stone of the National Forensic Science University.

The Chief Minister also held a meeting with senior officials of the Environment and Forest Department and Assam Police. The meeting discussed the issue of the eviction of encroachers from the Orang National Park (ONP).

According to sources, the government is ready to conduct an eviction drive in Orang National Park shortly to free 21,000 bighas of land from encroachers.
