GUWAHATI: At the appointment letter distribution ceremony for 44,703 candidates here today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that it is a big achievement to provide appointments to such a large number of candidates on merit without the involvement of even a single penny.
In congratulating the candidates who got appointment letters, he said, “My blessing for all of you is to make the state stride in the next 25–30 years. When Himanta Biswa Sarma proposed to us that the BJP, after coming to power in the state, would give jobs to one lakh candidates, we were surprised. He, however, was adamant, and that made us tell him to go ahead. We have fulfilled our poll promise by providing jobs to 87,000 youths so far.”
He said, “Once in Assam, youths would roam about with arms in their hands. Unrest was largely prevailing in the state at that time. Now the youth of Assam want development and peace. I appeal to all those who got jobs today to work for the state and the poor. I hope Assam will be one of the stakeholders in the emergence of a New India after the completion of 100 years of independence for the country in 2047.”
On the opposition, he said, “It was the negative thoughts of the Congress that hindered the development of Northeast India. However, the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the region go ahead.”
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “When we announced jobs for one lakh candidates, various quarters questioned if it would be possible in a state like Assam. However, we have made it possible with inspiration from the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Sah. I appeal to the newly appointed youths to devote every moment of their lives to the welfare of the state and the poor. Now we will provide Rs 2 lakh in subsidies to youths who want to get established with their own industrial units. However, the state will have to be free from dharna and protest to create an atmosphere conducive to industries.”
