GUWAHATI: The State Government will appoint 22,921 teachers – 10,000 in elementary education and 12,921 in higher education – by the end of October 2021.
Talking to The Sentinel on Thursday, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, "We will advertise the filling up of 10,000 posts of teachers in elementary education and 12,921 in higher education in September this year. This is part of the BJP's pre-poll promise of providing jobs to one lakh candidates in a year.
"The TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) is a must for all these posts. And the government has already conducted the TET. The advertisements will be only for the filling up of the vacant posts. The department will take around 45 days from publishing advertisements to appointment. The appointment will be on a merit basis.
"We are contemplating on reopening of classes for final year students from September 1, 2021. The Chief Minister is laying stress on the reopening of classes. We are taking up the issue with the Health Department.
"Students are reluctant to take admission in HS (Higher Secondary) schools. They prefer colleges. However, since the pass percentages in HLSC and HS examinations are very high this year, some students will have to take admission in HS schools also. We will ensure that each of the students who want to pursue higher education gets admission."
