GUWAHATI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested two ASPs (Additional Superintendents of Police) today in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission). The two arrested ASPs are Aishwarya Jibon Baruah of Uldalguri and Shahjahan Sarkar of Jorhat (crime). Both the police officers belong to the CCE (Combined Competitive Examinations)-2013, and their names are figured in the list of 37 ACS and allied service officers indicted by the Justice (retd) Biplab Sharma Judicial Inquiry Commission.
According to sources, the SIT interrogated the two police officers and produced them before the Court of the Special Judge today. The court sent both of them to five days of police custody.
The State Government formed the SIT after Justice (retd.) Biplab Kumar Sharma submitted its report to the government on the anomalies in the holding of the CCE by the APSC. The State Government has already informed the Gauhati High Court of the formation of the SIT for the investigation into the cash-for-job scam in the APSC. ADGP Munna Prasad Gupta is heading the SIT. All 37 officers indicted by the judicial commission were not on the radar of the Dibrugarh Police investigation into case 936/2016.
According to sources, more arrests of the 37 indicted officers are likely. The 37 officers include five ACS officers and 22 APS officers, and the rest are from allied cadres.
