GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated that around 20 percent of the police personnel, numbering around 10,000, in the state are under the scanner of the State Government. Many of them will have to face tough action, including dismissal from service, by 2026, he said.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said, “We have a 50,000-strong police force in the state, and we have to keep close watch on the activities of around 20 percent of them. We have dismissed only a few of them from service. The list of dismissals will be longer in the days to come. The deeds of the around 80 percent honest policemen have restored peace in the state.”

In the past few days, the State government has dismissed eight police personnel, besides suspending many others. The charges against them are negligence in duty, bribery, doing duty in an inebriated condition, immoral activities, etc.
