GUWAHATI: The State Government provided Scooties to meritorious students who had passed the HS final examination with 60 percent or above marks for girls and 75 percent or above marks for boys under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme in 2022. However, around 200 eligible students did not get Scooties.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed Scooties to the meritorious students on November 30, 2022, in the presence of his Cabinet colleagues. During the distribution of Scooties, it was announced that the government would distribute 35,800 Scooties to meritorious students as the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Award. As many as 29,748 girls and 6,052 boys received the award.

However, some girls scoring above 60 percent and some boys scoring above 75 percent did not get the award. The meritorious students and their guardians went to the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) to know the reasons behind their deprivation of the award.

The AHSEC told the students and their guardians that, for various reasons, the names of some meritorious students were left out of the list of recipients. The Council, however, sent the list of the left-out students to the Directorate of Higher Education that distributed the award. Some of the students and their guardians frequented the Directorate of Higher Education to know if they would at all get the Banikanta Kakati Award and, if yes, when. The Directorate, however, could not tell them anything concrete.

With already five-and-a-half months elapsed, a few students informed the Chief Minister in writing of their deprivation from the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Award.
