GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma now has his eyes set on police stations. He has asked the officer-in-charges of police stations to arrest unauthorised persons writing FIRs in police stations within ten days, or else he will arrest the civilian FIR writers.
The Chief Minister said this while inaugurating the two-lane flyover at Supermarket here today. The Chief Minister said, "Anybody going to Dispur Police Station will find unauthorised persons writing FIRs. OCs do not write FIRs in police stations. It is happening in every police station in the state.
"If a couple has a dispute and moves to a police station, the unauthorised persons write the FIR and also apply IPC sections that don't let cases meet their logical end.
"This is why I have asked the OCs to arrest the unauthorised FIR writers within ten days. Else I will arrest the unauthorised FIR writers. Why should civilians write FIRs in police stations?
"Yesterday, a senior police official told me that police stations need FIR writers. They are justifying it. I will not let that continue anymore.
"Rural populace needs to get service. Rural people say they have to dole out Rs 10 to Rs100 when visiting deputy commissioners' offices. However, office environment is quite different now. The works of ministers are harder than ever, so are that of MLAs and bureaucrats.
"If we work, Assam will develop. We need to work at a breakneck speed to take the State forward. We need to promote the work culture. We swept the recent bye-poll for our development agenda.
"The rural populace should have easy access to government services. The role of brokers has to end. People should get their work done without having to dole out any cash. It's our responsibility towards them because they have blessed us.
"Under ease of governance initiative, the State Government is adequately taking the help of digital solutions to ensure people enjoy the fruits of governance in all areas including driving license, trade license, employment registration, land-related services etc."
