GUWAHATI: The construction process of a four-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi has got underway with the tendering for the selection of a project management consultant.
The name of the project is – the construction of a four-lane extradosed PSC bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi, including via duct, approach roads, river training works, protection works etc. The state PWD will implement the 12.21-km project in EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) mode.
The estimated cost of the EPC contract is Rs 2,600 crore, and the time stipulation is 48 months. NDB (New Development Bank) is to fund the project.
The office of the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner has already started land acquisition work for the project. It has already identified lands it will acquire for the project. According to the information available, the district administration will acquire 101 bighas of land from 98 different daags in the Palasbari Revenue Circle and 159 bighas of land from 129 different daags in the Hajo Revenue Circle. The government will pay around Rs 292 crore to the land owners as compensation.
The project management consultant group, which the PWD will select in the tendering process, will monitor the project on behalf of the PWD. The project will start this financial year, maybe, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After completion, the project will ease traffic congestion in the entire lower Assam, including Guwahati.
