GUWAHATI: The people sustaining bullet injuries during the Assam Agitation will get ex gratia amounting to Rs 2 lakh each.
The Sarbananda Sonowal Government did pay ex gratia amounting to Rs 2 lakh each to some people sustaining bullet injuries during the Assam Agitation. The present government has also started the verification process to pay the ex gratia to the remaining bullet injured.
According to sources in the Assam Accord Implementation Department, around 460 people sustained bullet injuries during the Assam Agitation. And of them, the Sarbananda Sonowal Government did pay compensation to 327 sustaining bullet injuries. However, the Sonowal Government could not locate the addresses of the remaining 133 bullet-injured people, nor could it verify them. And as such, it did not pay them the compensation.
The present government has started the verification to pay ex gratia to the remaining 133 people sustaining bullet injuries. The department has received the documents of 40 people sustaining bullet injuries so far, and each of them will get Rs 2 lakh. The other Assam Agitation bullet injured will also get the amount on completion of their verification.
The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) has long been demanding compensation for the Assam Agitation bullet injured.
