Assam Artistes Win Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards

GUWAHATI: Renowned dancer and choreographer Jatin Goswami has been selected for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow or Akademi Ratna awards along with three other eminent personalities of the country.
Goswami, who is known as an exponent of Xattriya dance, was born on August 2, 1933 to Dharanidhar Dev Goswami and Chandraprova Devi at Adhar Xattra near Dergaon in Golaghat district. He is the founder director of Sattriya Akademi, Guwahati and also an ex-member of the general council of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Xattriya dance artiste Tankeswar Hazarika Borbayan and mask artiste Hem Chandra Goswami have been selected for Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskar) for the year 2018. The honour of Akademi Fellow carries a purse money of Rs 3 lakh while the Akademi Award carries Rs 1 lakh, besides a Tamrapatra and Angavastram. Awards will be conferred by the President of India at a special investiture ceremony.
On other hand dancer Anjali Borbora Borthakur (Xattriya), musician Manoj Kumar Das (Folk and traditional music) and Kuldeep Patgiri (Mime) have been chosen for Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2018.
