GUWAHATI: The Assam Assembly passed eight Bills on many important subjects on the last day of its budget session on Friday.

Among the Bills passed on Friday the Assam Tenancy Bill, 2021 was the first of its kind in India. The Bills seeks to minimize disputes between landlords and tenants over house rent by various provisions including setting up tribunals.

The Majuli University of Culture (Amendment) Bill, 2021 will pave the way for setting up a world class university in the river island to give the global exposure to the unique Vaishnavite culture.

The Assam Professions, Trades, Calling and Employments Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2021 will penalize those organizations who do not deposit TDS (Tax Deduction at Source) amount of their employees within the stipulated time frame. The penalty will be a fine of Rs 500 per day in case of non-deposition of TDS amount within the deadline.

Other Bills passed were "The Assam Employees' Parent Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring (Amendment) Boll, 2021, The Registration (Assam Amendment) Bill, 2021, The Assam Municipal (Second Amendment) Bill, 2021, The Indian Stamp (Assam Amendment) Bill, 2021 and The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021"
