Assam Assembly Poll 2021: BJP gets 33.21% share of votes; Congress 29.67%

GUWAHATI: The BJP had the last laugh in the Assam Assembly poll by getting a 33.21 per cent share of votes against a 29.67 per cent share of Congress. While the BJP polled 63,84,538 votes by 93 candidates, Congress polled 57,03,341 votes by 95 candidates.

BJP's ally AGP got a share of 7.91 per cent of votes. It polled 15,19,777 votes in all. The regional party contested 29 seats.

Congress' ally AIUDF got a share of 9.29 per cent of votes, the total votes being 17,86,551. The party contested 20 seats.

Another Congress' ally BPF got a share of 3.39 per cent of votes, the total votes being 6,51,073. It contested 12 seats.

The CPI(M) got a share of 0.84 per cent of votes. The total votes it polled was 1,60,758.

While the UPPL won six seats, the Raijar Dal (Independent) won one seat.

Other parties, including independent candidates and candidates of non-recognized political parties like the AJP and the UPPL, got a total of 26,28,518 votes. The share of votes is 13.67 per cent.

All the candidates of Raijar Dal fought the State Assembly election as independent candidates.

According to the final results announced late last night by the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 60 seats, AGP 9 and the UPPL 6. While Congress Congress won 29 seats, AIUDF won 16, BPF 4, CPI(M) 1 and Raijor Dal (Independent) 1 seat.
