GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that 'the robust development in the health sector in Assam in the past six years is making the state a health hub for the neighbouring countries, let alone north-eastern states'.

The Union Home Minister said this after inaugurating the Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Centre (CNC) in front of the GMCH today. He said, "The government did much to make Guwahati a health hub."

Lauding Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the robust change in the health sector in Assam, Shah said, "The way the Assam Government tackled the Covid-19 situation is praiseworthy. Assam was infamous for hartals, insurgency, bandhs etc. However, development erased them all."

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's firm steps to fight the Covid pandemic, Shah said, "Other countries are following our footsteps on the Covid vaccination App – CoWin. Under the leadership of Modi, the country is going ahead with a well-thought medical service programme."

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The initial cost of the CNC was Rs 62 crore. The State Government changed the plan later and completed it by spending Rs 273 crore. We have been able to erect several milestones in the health sector."
