Assam Cabinet approves Rs 942 crore for PWD

GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet on Monday approved Rs 942 crore for the PWD to implement the ambitious scheme of converting 1159 wooden bridges into RCC ones. Conversion will be done under the scheme designed as Chilarai Project. Preliminary work for converting 600 wooden bridges into RCC will start within the current financial year. The Cabinet also decided to purchase the house at Kuthori in Nagaon district where music maestro Bhupen Hazarika used to stay during his lifetime. The house will be developed as a heritage property by the government. The Cabinet also sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for renovation of the house at Tollygunge area in Kolkata where Bhupen Hazarika used to stay.
