GUWAHATI: The state Cabinet took a slew of important decisions, including a uniform retirement date for anganwadi workers, the creation of a special administrative cadre for prosecution sanctions, reorganizing the Irrigation Department, non-practising allowances (NPA) for doctors, approval of the holiday list for 2024, and the spending of five nights in villages by the Cabinet ministers.
The Cabinet today approved 36 Gazetted holidays, 30 restricted holidays, and two half-holidays for 2024. Apart from these, the district commissioners can declare one-day holidays based on local significance, and the GAD (General Administration Department) can declare two holidays.
The Cabinet decided to convert the Rs 758 crore grant-in-aid to Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) to acquire Hindusthan Paper Corporation Ltd. assets into equity. This is to strengthen and empower AIDC as a premier industrial development corporation.
The Cabinet also approved the creation of a new and dedicated administration cadre for prosecution services. The creation of prosecution cadres will increase the synergy between prosecution and investigation teams, ensuring the success of the criminal justice system. The new cadre of prosecution services to be created by framing the Assam State Prosecution Service Rules, 2023, is to streamline the system of prosecution and increase the conviction rate in the state.
The Cabinet decided that all cabinet ministers will spend five days and five nights in villages in December this year to dedicate 400 schools in the remotest corners of the state.
The Cabinet decided to provide Rs 10,000 each as grants-in-aid to 6,953 puja pandals in the state.
The Cabinet took the decision to provide non-practising allowances (NPA) to doctors under the Health Department once every five years of service, with effect from January 2024.
The Cabinet converted the outstanding loan amounting to Rs 54 crore and its interest of Rs 10.92 crore of AFC (Assam Financial Corporation) to equity capital of the corporation.
The Cabinet also approved the reorganization of administrative units of the Irrigation Department in line with the delimitation of Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs).
The Cabinet approved that the date of relinquishment of services for all anganwadi workers and helpers in mini anganwadi centres will be April 30 of the year, just after the completion of 60 years of age, and their services shall be discontinued accordingly.
To boost renewable power, the government will implement the 24-MW Karbi Langpi Middle-II Hydropower Project at a revised project cost of Rs 417 crore.
