GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet took some crucial decisions on education, PWD (Public Works Department), PHE (Public Health Engineering) Department, sports etc., on Thursday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired the meeting.
The Cabinet expressed deep condolences on the death of Nandita Saikia, a student of Moridhal College of Dhemaji district. The government has already directed the Special DGP to investigate the case speedily to ensure exemplary punishment to the culprit.
The decisions are –
The Cabinet decided to start classes for HS final, degree final and PG final year from the first week of September. The government will hold a vaccination camp for COVID-19 at the offices of Block Elementary Education Officer, District Elementary Education Officer, Inspector of Schools and all university campuses from Friday up to September 5 for vaccination of teachers, non-teaching staff and students above 18 years.
For attending classes, the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory. However, to open hostels, boarders will have to take both doses of the vaccine.
The government will issue the SOP on the opening of educational institutions on or before August 31.
Cabinet decided to create three new Public Health Engineering divisions in Majuli with headquarters at Kamalabari, South Salmara-Mankachar with Hatsingimari as headquarters and Bajali with Pathsala as headquarters, along with the creation of 93 new posts for the new divisions.
The Cabinet decided to celebrate the birthday of Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah as Sports Day on September 3 every year.
The Cabinet also decided to increase the amount of sports pension from existing Rs 8,000- to 10,000.
The Cabinet also fixed the one-time financial assistance to sportspersons at Rs 50,000.
The Cabinet further decided to give a lifetime pension of Rs 10,000 per month to players who have won medals at national championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
The Cabinet approved the creation of eight new circles, 20 new divisions and 28 subdivisions in the state PWD (Building), besides the approval of 804 technical posts in the department. The government will create 3,150 posts in PWD (Building) and (National Highway).
The Cabinet decided to empower deputy commissioners to transfer staff of government departments within the jurisdiction of the district in consultation with the heads of the departments concerned up to the rank of junior engineer.
The Cabinet decided to rename the Science & Technology Department as Science, Technology and Climate Change Department.
The Cabinet reviewed the flood situation of the BTR and decided to depute Minister Jogen Mohan and UG Brahma to monitor the situation.
