Assam Cabinet Announced More Civilian Awards par year

GUWAHATI: In line with the Centre, the State Government is going to confer Asom Ratna, Asom Bibhushan, Asom Bhushan and Asom Shree awards, carrying Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively every year. The State Cabinet decided this effect on Tuesday. The Asom Ratna Award is already prevalent in the State but is given away after every three years. The Cabinet today decided to give away this award annually.

Civilian Awards in Assam

The State Cabinet took this decision to recognize the personalities who made significant contributions to society in various other fields, including literature. While the Asom Ratna award will be conferred on one, Asom Bibhushan will be conferred on three, Asom Bhushan to five and Assam Shree to ten personalities every year.

The recipients of these awards will also get free medical treatment of critical illness, free lodging at Assam Bhawans outside the State, free travel in the Assam State Transport Corporation buses.

The Cabinet also brought some changes on the schedules in giving literary, artiste and sports pensions. While the literary pensions will be announced on December 7, the birthday of acclaimed litterateur Homen Borgohain, the sports pensions will be given on September 3, the birthday of Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah and the artiste pensions will be given on January 17 on the occasion of the Shilpi Divas.
