GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet took a slew of important decisions today, including the ban on sales of drinking water bottles below one litre from October 2 this year and banning one-litre water bottles also from October 2 next year.

The Cabinet approved taking a Rs 2097-crore loan and grants from the ADB (Asian Development Bank) for the reconstruction of 75 km of embankments in several districts.

To speed up departmental proceedings against corrupt government officials, the Cabinet approved the appointment of state inquiry officers from retired officers with a clean image. Officers will get Rs 1 lakh after the completion of one departmental proceeding.

The Cabinet decided to extend the Rs 265 crore subsidy to the APDCL not to bypass the burden of the extra amount, which they spend for purchasing power at higher costs, on the consumers. The APDCL will provide four LED bulbs to each consumer consuming less than 100 units per month.

The Cabinet decided to hand over the work of the South Guwahati Water Supply Project, which remained incomplete as Gamon India was removed from the project for its snail’s pace of work, to L & T.

In principle, the Cabinet agreed to rename the old land classification as a section of mandals often misleads and harasses the common people regarding the old land classification.

The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 400 crore for the BTR and Rs 200 crore for the Amrit Sarovar Joyana.
