GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet today approved the raising of a RIDF (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund) loan of Rs 950 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for the construction of roads and four rural bridges. The Cabinet in principle approved a 1,000-km road project titled ‘High Speed Economic Corridor’ under the Asom Mala for an estimated Rs 3,000 crore.

The Cabinet also allotted 7 bighas of land for the construction of a judicial guest house at Kaziranga. The Cabinet also decided that various government events would be held in various districts of the State from November 11 to November 16. The events include distribution of financial assistance to the new beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme; distribution of free bicycles among Class IX students studying in government schools; and distribution of certificates to women beneficiaries for waiving off their microfinance loans. Orunodoi is a flagship scheme of the State Government aimed at providing financial security to financially disadvantaged families.

Ministers, MLAs and MPs will take part in these government events in different districts. The Cabinet has decided that in each district, all these three events will be held in the same pandal on different days to curb expenditure.
