GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet on Saturday took some important decisions regarding the wood-based industry, Mission Basundhara-2.0, and amendment in the state OBC list.

With a view to promoting the agar and plywood industries, the Cabinet approved the 'Assam Wood-based Industries (Promotion and Development) Rules, 2022. The Rules classify the wood-based industries into three categories – Primary, Secondary and Composite. The Primary and Secondary wood-based industries will require licenses and will have to be set up inside Industrial Estates. The Secondary wood-based industries will require registration and need to be located inside Industrial Estates.

Regarding Mission Basundhara-2.0, the Cabinet approved an amount of Rs 328 crore for its implementation. The mission will comprise ten services in the first phase, including settlement of VGR and PGR land to eligible occupants as a one-time measure with effect till December 31, 2023.

The Cabinet also amended the state OBC list and gave separate enlistment to the Moran and Matak communities in the list. Earlier, Moran-Matak was enlisted together as one community. Further, the Cabinet included the Bhujel sub-caste of the Nepali community of the state in the OBC list. The nomenclature of the Limbu community was also rectified as it was earlier recorded as Lihu.
