GUWAHATI: For the first time in post-Independence history, the Assam Cabinet will hold a sitting at New Delhi on Saturday.

Sources said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is currently on a personal visit to Uttarakhand, contacted his ministerial colleagues on Friday and asked them to be present at New Delhi in order to discuss important Cabinet matters there tomorrow.

Consequently, Minister Pijush Hazarika rushed to New Delhi on a 4 o'clock flight, while Ajanta Neog left by another flight at 6 pm. Chandra Mohan Patowary, Keshab Mahanta and Atul Bora left for New Delhi by the 8 o'clock flight.

The sources informed that the Chief Minister asked the ministers who cannot be physically present tomorrow to take part in the meeting via video conference.

It is likely that the Chief Minister, who has also arrived in New Delhi, will discuss issues pertaining to the delimitation process in Assam with his colleagues tonight itself, the sources added.

The sources said that after tomorrow's Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister and his colleagues will return to Guwahati. The Chief Minister has a scheduled New Year's programme here on Sunday, January 1.

It may be mentioned that the incumbent government has started the practice of holding Cabinet meetings at various places outside Dispur, such as Majuli, Bongaigaon, Tezpur, Silchar and Jorhat.
