GUWAHATI: State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Monday assured representatives of primary school teachers that steps were being taken to fulfil their various demands, including creation of posts of headmasters for primary schools within August 31.

The minister gave this assurance while chairing a meeting with representatives of the Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) here.

The main demands of the ASPTA are holding of examinations under the Chief Minister's Special Scholarship, provision of at least two copies of exercise and evaluation books to students for each subject, release of DA, including arrear dues, to primary teachers, increase of Privilege Leave to 30 days and creation of headmasters' posts in primary schools.

According to ASPTA sources, regarding the resumption of the process of transfer of teachers via mutual arrangement, the minister said that they would receive good news within a week.
