Assam Flood 2020: 2 New Deaths, State flood toll rises to 89

GUWAHATI: With continuous rains lashing Assam, all the major rivers and their tributaries are flowing above the danger level even as the toll rose to 89. During the last 24 hours, one death has been reported each from Baghbar (in Barpeta district) and Morigaon.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Dibrugarh, Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Goalpara and Dhubri; Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district; Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district; Kopili at Kampur and Dharamtul in Nagaon district; Beki at Road Bridge in Barpeta district; Kushiyara in Karimganj district; and the Sankosh at Golokganj in Dhubri district.

Altogether 26 of the 33 districts of the State have been affected. The flood affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, West Karbi Anglong and Cachar.

As many as 26,31,343 persons in 2,525 villages/ localities across 75 Revenue Circles have been affected. Altogether 45,281 persons have taken shelter in 281 relief camps. Altogether 110 relief distribution centres have been set up.

The total crop area affected till date is 1,15,515.25 hectares.

Altogether 9,65,435 big animals have been affected besides 4,68,846 small animals and 9,55,210 poultry have been affected till Wednesday evening.

Embankments, roads and bridges/culverts have been breached at many places. Erosion has been reported from various places in Biswanath, Majuli, Baksa, Udalguri, and Kokrajhar districts.

While 126 camps have been affected in Kaziranga National Park, five others have been vacated across the Park. On the other hand, while 120 Park animals have died, 147 others have been rescued till date. In Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, while 12 camps have been affected.
