GUWAHATI: Flood and landslide toll in the state keeps rising. Floods claimed seven lives in the past 24 hours. The death toll due to floods and landslides has increased to 107.

Two persons each died in Barpeta and Cachar, and one each in Bajali, Dhubri and Tamulpur districts today. Two of the seven were children. To date, three rivers are flowing above the danger level. The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level in Dhubri, the Kopili at Dharamtul and Kampur and the Disang at Nonglamura Ghat. Though the water level in the rivers fell slightly, the flood situation is still grim. Flood waters inundated fresh areas.

The flood waters inundate the Guwahati-Hajo state highway near Hajo, affecting road communication. The situation is still critical in the Kampur area.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the worst-affected Cachar district in the Barak Valley today.

According to the ASDMA's (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) flood bulletin, 30 districts are reeling under floods in the state. The floods affected over 43 lakh people in 4,536 villages in 103 revenue circles. As many as 2,84,875 affected people are taking shelter in 759 relief camps.
