GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam turned critical with 27 out of the 33 districts of the State affected even as the toll rose to 50 on Monday evening. All the rivers and their tributaries are flowing above the danger level.
Meanwhile, with six more deaths during the last 24 hours, the ASDMA flood bulletin said that one each died in Sibsagar district; Nowboicha (Lakhimpur district); Bajali (Barpeta district); Manikpur (Bongaigaon district); Rangia (Kamrup district); and also at Bokakhat (Golaghat district).
While the Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri; Subansiri at Badatighat in Lakhimpur district; Burhidihing at Chenimari, Khowang in Dibrugarh district; Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district; the Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district; the Kopili at Kampur in Nagaon district and Dharamtul in Nagaon district; Puthimari at NH Road Crossing, Kamrup; Pagladiya at NT Road Crossing in Nalbari district; Manas at NH Road Crossing in Barpeta district; Beki at Road Bridge in Barpeta district; Katakhal at Matizuri in Hailakandi district; Kushiyara at Karimganj district; and the Sankosh River at Golokganj in Dhubri district.
The 27 flood-affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.
As many as 21,63,010 personsof 2,763 villages/ localities in 86 Revenue Circles have been affected. Total crop area affected is 103,806.15 hectares. A total of 173 relief camps, including 307 relief distribution centres, have been set up in the State. Altogether 60,696 affected persons have been given shelter in the relief camps. As many as 30 big animals, 20 small, and 90 poultry have been washed away. Altogether 8,28,796 big, 3,92,264 small animals and 5,60,860 poultry have been affected till Monday evening.
Embankments, roads and bridges/culverts have been breached at many places. Erosion has been reported from various places in Majuli, Udalguri, Nalbari, and Chirang districts.
Approximately 95 per cent area of the Kaziranga National Park are submerged. While 166 camps have been affected, seven camps have been vacated across the Park. On the other hand, while 47 Park animals have died, 70 others have been rescued till date.
In the RG Orang National Park, flood water has affected 24 camps. Death of a hog deer has been reported from the Park.
