GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam turned more critical on Tuesday with nine more persons dead and the main rivers and their tributaries flowing much above the danger level at various places across the State. Personnel of NDRF, SDRF and the respective district administration are carrying out rescue operations at various places.
Among the dead are three persons in Dibrugarh east; two each in Tinsukia and Barpeta districts; and one each in Biswanath and Golaghat districts.
While the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri; Burhidihing at Chenimari, Khowang in Dibrugarh district; Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district; the Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district; the Kopili at Kampur in Nagaon district and Dharamtul in Nagaon district; Beki at Road Bridge in Barpeta district; Kushiyara at Karimganj district; and the Sankosh River at Golokganj in Dhubri district.
Altogether 28 out of the 33 districts of the State have affected during the last 24 hour, said the daily bulletin of ASDMA.
The flood affected districts in Assam are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.
As many as 32,94,127 persons of 3,371 villages/ localities in 92 Revenue Circles have been affected. Total crop area affected is 128,495.22 hectares. Altogether 198 relief camps, including 319 relief distribution centres, have been set up. Altogether 44,108 affected persons have taken shelter in these relief camps.
A total of 13,46,261 big, 6,65,214 small animals and 13,84,862 poultry have been affected till Tuesday evening.
While 75 houses have been damaged fully, 85 others suffered partial damage.
Embankments, roads and bridges/culverts have been breached at many places. Erosion has been reported from various places in Udalguri, Nalbari, Baksa, Biswanath and South Salmara districts.
Approximately 95 per cent areas of the Kaziranga National Park are submerged. While 173 camps have been affected, 14 have been vacated across the Park. On the other hand, while 51 Park animals have died, 102 others have been rescued till date. In Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, while 12 camps have been affected; four have been shifted. In the RG Orang National Park, flood water has affected 20 camps.
