GUWAHATI: Worried over the flood situation in Assam, Singapore Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnan said, "It is not just a local problem of Assam. It is a global problem, and we need to involve multi-lateral institutions in resolving this perennial problem in Northeast India and Bangladesh."

Shanmugaratnan said that his country would be keen to play its part in evolving a lasting solution to the problem of the annual deluge in Assam, drawing from its own experience. "It is an area where multi-lateral organizations like ADB, World Bank, universities etc., should work together. We have to see what solutions are possible. When we were at IIT-Guwahati earlier in the day, we found that they have some ideas, and Singapore has some experience. We are happy to see what we can contribute to the whole of water management."
