GUWAHATI: Even as the flood situation slightly improved during the last 24 hours, the toll, however, rose to 39 with one more casualty reported from Dhemaji district. As on Tuesday, 1,99,462 persons are affected in 348 villages under 22 Revenue Circles (RCs) across 13 of the 33 districts in Assam.

The maximum number of 1,19, 485 people have been affected in Barpeta district followed by 28,861 in Goalpara; 15,107 in Dhemaji; 10,213 in Morigaon and 6,438 in Nagaon district among others. Altogether 1,673 people are taking shelter in 25 relief camps.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat (Jorhat) and Dhubri; the Disang at Nanglamuraghat in Sivsagar distrct; Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur; and the Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district.

Further, 19, 886.02 hectares of crop land have been affected.

In Kaziranga National Park, while 14 camps are affected; three have been vacated. Altogether 47 wild animals have been affected due to floods and vehicles, stated the DFO, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division. In Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, one camp is affected.

Though one person died due to drowning during the last 24 hours at Golakganj RC in Dhubri district, the ASDMA (the Assam State Disaster Management Authority) daily bulletin clarified that these deaths were not due to the floods.

Erosion has been reported from several places including Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, and Udalguri districts.
