GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Friday deposited Rs 1,000 each in the bank accounts of around one lakh flood-affected students who are staying in various relief camps, so that they may buy books to replace the ones damaged or swept away by floods.
The total amount of Rs 10 crore needed for this grant to flood-affected students has been provided from donations made to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund by various organizations and individuals.
The government is also preparing a list of students who lost their free text books due to floods and will replace them soon.
