GUWAHATI: With the colleges in the state implementing the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 from this academic session, the State Government will distribute appointment letters to 330 assistant professors and librarians for the colleges today. This will make the colleges able to handle the transition from three-year degree courses with six semesters to four-year degree courses with eight semesters.

The State Government approved the list of the 330 selected candidates last night so as to make them receive appointment letters at the maga ceremony in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday.

According to sources in the Department of Higher Education, the appointment of 324 assistant professors and six librarians is based on recommendations from the governing bodies of the colleges. Various college governing bodies also recommended 155 candidates for Grade III posts and 368 candidates for Grade IV posts in colleges. All such selected candidates will also receive appointment letters tomorrow. The 368 Grade IV posts also include the posts of laboratory bearers in colleges. Sources said this recruitment in colleges will be a respite for educational institutions that face a manpower shortage. In all, the State Government will distribute appointment letters to 44,703 candidates tomorrow.
