GUWAHATI: The Assam Government had to put on hold the appointments of three candidates who passed the CCE-2020 (Combined Competitive Examination-2020) conducted by the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) due to some doubts. One of the three selected candidates belongs to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category, and the other two belong to the PwDs (Persons with Disabilities) category.

The APSC declared the results of the CCE-2020 on October 21, selecting 331 candidates for ACS and allied services. The APSC selected the candidates following the government's reservation policy for SC, ST, OBC and MOBC, EWS and PWD candidates. However, after the declaration of results, the government received a complaint against a candidate falling in the EWS category. The complainant informed the government that a candidate selected under the EWS category does not fall under that category. It led the department concerned to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Based on the preliminary investigation report, the government put the issuance of an appointment letter for the candidate on hold. However, the government will conduct a detailed inquiry into the complaint to take the final decision. Candidates belonging to the EWS category get a 10 per cent reservation.

According to the rules, all the selected CCE-passed candidates have to face medical examinations before their appointment. The medical reports of two candidates under the PwD category are adverse on the percentage of their disabilities. The government put issuing appointment letters to these two candidates also on hold. The government will conduct further medical examinations of these two candidates before taking the final decision. Candidates belonging to PwDs get a four per cent reservation.

Meanwhile, some organizations publicly raised objections against the selection of a few candidates under the EWS category by the APSC. Officially the government has received a complaint against one EWS candidate.

The government issued appointment letters to the selected CCE-2020 candidates on October 29.
