Assam Government signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for investment of Rs 8,201 cr

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government signed the Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with eight different companies for the setting up of electric vehicle manufacturing plants, cement grinding plants, float glass plants, solar power plants, soft drink plants, snack manufacturing plants, etc., today. The total investment involved in these plants is Rs 8,201 crore, with direct employment avenues for 6,115 youths. Apart from these, the state government also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Adani Group for a centre for perishable cargo.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Our flourishing economy takes yet another stride on the eve of the State Government’s second anniversary. We have many more in the pipeline. Thank you all for reposing faith in Assam’s growth story.”

The Chief Minister said, “Assam has stepped into a new era of investment. A few changes in industrial and investment policy have wooed prospective investors. No agitation, no dharna, and no bandh in the past two years have created an investment-friendly atmosphere in the state. It has made investors evince interest in investing in the state. We have converted 118 criminal penal provisions to civil penal provisions so as to lessen harassment in the industrial sector.”

Pepsi Co India Holding Pvt. Ltd. will invest Rs 778 crore, Rs 146 crore by Varun Beverage Ltd., Rs 4653 crore by Calcom Cement India Ltd., Rs 800 crore by Century Float Glass Ltd., Rs 342 crore by Taj Cement Manufacturing Ltd., Rs 140 crore by DS Group (Electric Vehicles), Rs 700 crore by Star Cement Northeast Ltd., and Rs 640 crore by Star Cement India Ltd.
