GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Geology and Mining, Government of Assam has started its survey to ascertain the presence of mineral reserves in various parts of the state. One of the prime objectives is to generate revenue.

The Directorate of Geology and Mining has started its survey in Rangiya and its adjacent areas to ascertain if any mineral reserves are there. The Directorate will prepare its report and submit it to the government. The survey minerals is a time-taking exercise that needs over a year. The survey will cover the entire Kamrup district.

During its survey, the Directorate will see the quality and quantity of mineral reserves, if any. It will also ascertain if exploration of mineral reserves, if any, will be commercially viable.

The Directorate has also started drilling at Kuldung in the Karbi Anglong district. According to sources, the coal reserve detected in Karbi Anglong is much under the ground. If the Directorate finds the exploration of the coal reserve in Karbi Anglong commerciality viable, the government will auction the coal reserve for exploration through bidding.

The Directorate has also detected granite in the Morigaon district. It will conduct a detailed survey there too.
