GUWAHATI: In order to ensure rights of the indigenous people over lands, the State government is going to distribute land pattas and land allotment certificates to 55,000 to 60,000 families in 24 districts in the State on October 5, 2020.
This is going to be the largest-ever distribution of land pattas in a single day in the history of Assam. A large number of indigenous people of the State have to face a whole lot of problems due to lack of land rights.
Talking to The Sentinel, State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan said, "Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is worried over a large number of indigenous people of the State not having land rights. He has set a target for us to provide one lakh land pattas by this year. In the first phase in February we gave around 45,000 land pattas. Now we're going to provide 55,000 to 60,000 land pattas and allotment certificates on October 5, 2020. It has been possible as we took the job in a mission mode with a target. The process of giving land pattas to the indigenous people will be a continuous process."
According to sources in the Revenue and Disaster Management department, around 8,393 families will get land pattas and allotment certificates in Lakhimpur district, 2320 in Tinsukia district, 2636 in Dibrugarh district, 3624 in Jorhat district, 3299 in Cachar district, 1501 in Charaideo district, 3578 in Majuli district, 1000 in Goalpara district, 1222 in Bongaigaon district, 1778 in Sivasagar district, 3624 in Dhemaji district, 1000 in Kamrup etc. The figures may go up by October 5, 2020, sources said.
According to sources in the department, either ministers or MPs will distribute the land pattas in various districts. While Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will distribute pattas in Majuli district, Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan in Sivasagar district, Atul Bora in Golaghat district, Pramila Rani Brahma in Dhubri district, Himanta Biswa Sarma in Jorhat district, Parimal Suklabaidya in Cachar district, to name few.
There will be no such distribution of pattas in Kamrup (M) district due to some technicalities.
