Guwahati: The State Government will soon constitute interim councils of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council, Moran Autonomous Council, Matak Autonomous Council and the Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council.

Since the elections to these autonomous councils will not be possible before the Assembly elections in 2021, the government will nominate 30 members for the Kamatapur Autonomous Council, 25 each for Moran Autonomous Council and Matak Autonomous Council and 40 members for the BodoKachari Welfare Autonomous Council.

While the Assam Assembly passed the Bill for the creation of the BodoKachari Welfare Autonomous Council in the last winter session of the House, the Bills for Kamatapur Autonomous Council, Moran Autonomous Council and Matak Autonomous Council were passed in the September session of the Assembly. The prime purpose of creating the autonomous councils is to bring about overall socio-economic development of various ethnic communities.
