GUWAHATI: The state government will submit a detailed flood memorandum to the Centre by either last part of next month or first part of October regarding the department-wise extent of damage suffered this year since the first week of April,.

Sources in the Disaster and Revenue Management Department said that a preliminary assessment has been made about the extent of damage caused by flood and landslides this season, but the government will wait till the flood season is over so that an accurate department-wise report can be sent to the Centre.

It may be mentioned that the state government officially considers April to September period as the flood season in Assam.

The sources further informed that apart from details about the damage caused by flood and landslides, the flood memorandum will also contain requests for additional funds under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) or the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The Disaster and Revenue Management Department is of the opinion that in view of the massive scale of infrastructure damage – particularly under the domain of the PWD, Water Resources Department, Irrigation Department and the Agriculture Department – additional funds from the Centre are likely to be required.

The Centre has so far released Rs 648.80 crore to Assam under the SDRF in two instalments. The funds were released after two Inter-Ministerial Central teams visited Assam and conducted an assessment of the damage inflicted by floods and landslides.
