GUWAHATI: The Assam government is framing rules to waive the loans of women pending with various MFI (Micro Finance Institutions).

Till March 31, 2021, approximately 26,23,000 women took such loans. On the other hand, the MFIs have extended total loan worth Rs 12,532 crore till the mentioned date. Mentionably in Assam, micro-finance loans are extended by four categories of financial institutions, namely NBFC-MFIs (Non-Banking Financial Company-Micro Finance Institutions); Scheduled Commercial Banks; Small Finance Banks; and MFIs. This was informed in the Assam Legislative Assembly by State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog in reply to BJP MLA Bidya Singh Engleng on Tuesday.
