Assam: High-level ECI Team Arrives Ahead of Assembly Polls 2021

GUWAHATI, Jan 18: A high-level delegation under the leadership of CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) of India, Sunil Arora arrived here on Monday afternoon. In another development, the Election Department Assam published the 'Final Photo Electoral Roll-2021'. Based on this electoral roll, the Assembly elections-2021 will be held.

Meanwhile soon after their arrival, the ECI (Election Commission of India) team has started reviewing the overall preparation including the law-and-order scenario keeping in view the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The ECI team held their first meeting with CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) Assam, NitinKhade in a city hotel here. The meeting discussed various issues related to the electoral roll, polling stations, proposed auxiliary polling stations, EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) and VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machines, and manpower to be used in the poll process among others. A meeting was also held with IGP (Law & Order) of Assam Police and Nodal Officer (Election), Deepak Kedia.

On Wednesday, CEC Arora will interact with the DEOs (District Election Officers) and SPs (Superintendents of Police) of the State.

During the remaining two days, the CEC will hold separate meetings with the State Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP (Director General of Police) and other senior officials. Meetings are also scheduled with the representatives of various political parties, and Central as well as State Regulatory authorities involved with the election process.

The other members of the ECI delegation are Election Commissioners (ECs) Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar; ECI Director General Dharmendra Sharma, Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhusan Kumar; Additional Director General, PIB & spokesperson Sheyphail B. Sharan; Senior Principal Secretary Narendra N Butolia; Director of Expenditure PankajSrivastava and EVM Consultant VipinKatara.

PHOTO ELECTORAL ROLL-2021: According to the 'Photo Electoral Roll-2021' published on Monday, Assam has 2,29,92,505 electors. While 1, 16,56,926 are male voters, the female electors are 1,13,35, 579.

Compared to the 'Final Photo Electoral Roll-2020', the State has registered an increase of 2.46 per cent or 5,52,983 number of voters.

According to the latest photo electoral rolls, Nagaon has registered 14,46,368 electors followed by Kamrup-Metro (11,37,377), Kamrup (11,27,196), Dibrugarh (10,38,691), Tinsukia (8,37,125), Jorhat (7,56,857), Golaghat (7,38,205), and Majuli (1,30,469).
