Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) seeks land for setting up MLA offices

GUWAHATI: Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) Secretary D Pegu has sent a letter to the Revenue and Disaster Management Commissioner & Secretary to allocate one bigha land for setting up of MLA offices in each district headquarter in the state. The move comes in the wake of a letter to Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary from Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia.

In his letter to the Speaker on November 30, 2022, Saikia said, "I would like to thank you for the initiative taken by you to set up MLA offices in every constituency of the state... it will be very much ideal to have such offices near the most important government offices of the constituencies, such as near DC offices in district headquarters or sub-divisional offices in sub-divisions or near circle offices at circle headquarters or near block development offices in all constituencies in the state.

However, getting land for the same will be a difficult task, unless the Deputy Commissioners or SDOs specifically consider such instructions. As such, I would like to request that your office may immediately issue instruction through the Revenue Department for the allotment of a minimum of one bigha land for such MLA offices at the earliest."

The ALA Secretary informed the Revenue and Disaster Management Commissioner & Secretary that the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly requests allotment at least one bigha of land each for setting up MLA offices in all district headquarters in the state.
