UNCERTAINTY OVER TIES WITH BPF
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Mahajot formed during the Assam Assembly polls-2021 between the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee), AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front), BPF (Bodoland People's Front), AGM (Anchalik Gana Morcha), CPI(M) — Communist Party of India (Marxist), the CPI (Communist Party of India); and the CPI-ML — Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist), is on the verge of splitting. The APCC has already decided to call off its alliance with the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) while uncertainty prevails over its alliance with the BPF (Bodoland People's Front).
The APCC decision (to break ties with the AIUDF) was taken in a meeting of its core committee in Guwahati on Monday. The core committee observed that the behaviour and attitude of 'Mahajot' alliance partner AIUDFin relation to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had baffled the Congress party. The AIUDF leadership and senior members heaped praise on the BJP party and the Chief Minister; and this had affected the public perception of the Congress party. Hence the core-committee members unanimously decided that the AIUDF could no longer remain as an alliance partner of the 'Mahajot'. The APCC will send an intimation in this regardto the All India Congress Committee (AICC) .
The core committee also held discussion with regard to the alliance with BPF (Bodoland People's Front). Since the BPF had already expressed their unwillingness in various forums to remain in the 'Mahajot', the core committee members decided to let APCC president Bhupen Borah take the decision in this matter and intimate the party high command.
The APCC expressed deep concern at the unprecedented "deteriorating relation" with Mizoram over border dispute, and condemned the failure of both the Central and State governments in maintaining cordial relations with neighbouring States on the border issues.
