GUWAHATI: The APW (Assam Public Works) has decided to move the Supreme Court of India seeking either 100 per cent re-verification of the NRC (National Register of Citizens) or its cancellation.
Addressing the media in New Delhi on Wednesday, APW president Abhijit Sharma said, "The updated NRC is full of errors. We're going to move the apex Court seeking its 100 per cent re-verification or cancellation. Mistakes on the part of former State NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela led to the publication of an NRC with lakhs of illegal foreigners' names.
"The present State NRC Coordinator, Hitesh Dev Sarma has filed an affidavit before the Gauhati High Court on the NRC recently. The affidavit has exposed that the updated NRC is erroneous. We're going to affix the affidavit on the NRC submitted to the High Court by the State NRC Coordinator along with our petition to the Supreme Court."
The NRC was published on August 31, 2019.
