GUWAHATI: The State government on Sunday decided to allow only 11 of the more than 50 departments to function with skeletal staff in the Janata Bhawan "as per requirement and needs" from July 6 to 12. The decision to restrict the functioning of the departments in Janata Bhawan has been taken following the report of corona-positive cases among some of the working officials in the Janata Bhawan as well as the huge spike of COVID-19 pandemic cases across Guwahati city.

As per earlier notification, while all the departments were allowed to function with skeletal staff, attendance was made mandatory for officials of the Joint Secretary-level and above designations.

According to the latest order issued by the Commissioner and Secretary of the Secretariat Administration Department, Dr M Angamuthu, only the following have been directed to function as per the issued norms: The Chief Minister's Office; Chief Secretary's Office;

Ministers' offices; and the offices of Senior Secretaries from the rank of Commissioner and Secretary.

Among the Departments allowed to function during these days are those of the General Administration, Finance, Home & Political, Revenue & Disaster Management; Secretariat Administration; Food & Civil Supplies; besides the Health & Family Welfare Department.

All senior officers from the rank of Commissioner and Secretary and above shall attend their respective offices in the Janata Bhawan, the order stated, adding that the other departments can function from their respective Directorates or from field establishments or from home.

Meanwhile, complete sanitization was done of the entire Janata Bhawan complex as well as the residential areas of the Secretariat employees.
