Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the cash-for-job scam of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) submitted its first supplementary charge sheet in the court of the special judge in 59 days' time.

This is the first charge sheet filed by the SIT in the scam, but it is the 12th charge sheet submitted in the scam till now. The charge sheet by SIT was filed against APS officers Aishwarya Jibon Baruah and Shajahan Sarkar, and assistant employment officer Rakesh Das. The three accused were suspended from service on November 30, 2023.

According to sources, the number of answer scripts for Aishwarya and Shajahan was more than the maximum number of 32 sheets allowed, including extra ones taken during the exam.

Interestingly, the handwriting of Rakesh Das in the answer scripts and that in the sample taken by SIT bear no similarity. They were found to be completely different.

The SIT had collected the handwriting samples of the two arrested ASPs, Aishwarya Jibon Baruah and Shahjahan Sarkar, as well as Rakesh Das, for forensic analysis after obtaining permission from the special court to do so. After collection, the samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed analysis.

It should be mentioned here that 37 ACS and allied services officers were indicted in the report by the Justice (retd.) Biplab Sharma Judicial Inquiry Commission. The officers are featured in a list connected to the CCE (Combined Competitive Examinations) 2013 and 2014 conducted by the APSC.
