GUWAHATI: In Assam, there are still has 10 lakh people who are eligible for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) houses. The Central Government will approve construction of more PMAY-G houses once Assam completes construction of the sanctioned houses.
State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, while addressing a press conference in Guwahati today, said, “At present, Assam ranks first and sometimes second in the country so far as construction of PMAY-G houses is concerned. This has been possible due to the work culture of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. His work culture has inspired the department officers, both at the headquarter and at the ground level, to work with sincerity and dedication.”
Dass further said, “PMAY-G is one of the rural welfare schemes which covers more than 19 lakhs beneficiaries in the State. Since the inception of the programme and in alignment to the objective of the programme, i.e ‘Housing for All’, Assam has sanctioned 18,30,400 PMAY-G houses under SECC and Awaas+ and has completed 11,63,471 houses till date. Out of the total of 11,63,471 PMAY-G houses that have been completed as on date, since May 10, 2021, under the tenure of the present government, Assam has completed 7,59,163 PMAY-G houses.”
He further said,“The remaining 6,66,929 ongoing houses are targeted to be completed by August 15, 2023. In this regard, Assam received a total amount of Rs 14540.84 crore in the financial year 2022-23 with Rs 13086.76 crore as Central share and Rs.1454.08 crore as State share. Since the last FY 2022-23 till date, the State has incurred an expenditure of Rs. 12,504.79 crore.
“As on date, the State has provided land to 40,096 landless PMAY-G beneficiaries. To accommodate the landless PMAY-G beneficiaries, the State has taken the initiative to provide land to construct a cluster of PMAY-G houses and simultaneous efforts are being undertaken to mobilize funds from different programmes and CSR to provide other facilities in the clusters. As on date, seven clusters have been completed covering 99 beneficiaries and 19 clusters are ongoing covering 838 beneficiaries across 10 districts in total (Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Hailakandi, Morigaon and Nagaon). Also, Assam has formulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for PMAY-G housing in tea garden areas. As on date, 81,638 beneficiaries living in tea garden areas have been benefitted with PMAY-G Housing. Moreover, the State is planning to conduct a mass Griha Pravesh ceremony for more than 2.5 lakh completed houses, out of which more than 2 lakh houses have already been completed since April 1, 2023.”
