TINSUKIA: In an unprecedented move in tea garden history, the Assam Tea Employees' Provident Fund Organization (ATEPFO), Tinsukia Zone today attached the property of Talap TE owned by Apeejay Tea Limited, one of India's oldest tea producers, for allegedly defaulting in depositing outstanding Provident Fund (PF) dues amounting to Rs 7.1 crore.

Mridul Hussain, Assistant PF Commissioner-cum-Recovery Officer, Tinsukia, of the ATEPF Organization under the Department of Labour, Government of Assam, attached the immovable and movable property of Talap TE by an order (PF/Zo-Tin/Recovery/2022/E-176/2472&2473 of 23.03. 2022) as the management of the TE failed to honour the Demand Notice served to them by the Recovery Officer. Following this attachment, the management of Talap TE of Apeejay Tea Limited herewith will be unable to sell, transfer or lease out the immovable and movable property of the tea estate, Hussain told this correspondent.

The attachment was carried out by Recovery Officer Mridul Hussain in the presence of Philip Barla CO-cum-EO, Circle Officer Doomdooma, Labour Inspector, police officials from Kakopathar, Doomdooma and Talap PS, besides representatives of ASKS and ACMS.
